It’s not over till I say it’s over!
Getting an S4 has priority though.

The 6.4 makes the 6.0 seem as reliable as a 12V Cummins.

So you’re getting an S4? Which one?
A B8 S4 is on my list of cars, though when I test drove one a few years ago I thought it was a bit dull. The B7 RS4 gave me the fizz though.

A B5.
I like the B8 a lot, but I like me some turbos.

With those kinds of plans, you’ll need to Jetta-son something to free up some funds!

Nice!
Oh and I edited my original post and I don’t know why it didn’t keep, but I’d be wary of the 6.4 powerstroke. Then again if you’re looking at B5 S4's then you’re comfortable with engines of questionable reliability.

Yup, I’ve heard ehh things about them.
I’ve had good luck with the 2.7t in my A6, hopefully that’ll continue.

the S4 that is really on my list of wants is a B7 Avant. I haven’t done much searching on those recently but the bubble my have burst. They’re understeery bastards, though.

Oh yes, not great canyon cars.
A manual B7 Avant popped up recently kinda in my area, I didn’t pay much mind to it because I’d honestly rather have a B5. But still, awesome cars.
I’m also unnecessarily exited for the manual B9.

I’m not sure what I think about the B9. It’s going to start at $40k, and most likely will be at least $45k with the “fun” options added. Possibly $50k. Oof. I’m not really liking the price inflation on German sport sedans in recent years. I think I would just go back to VW and get another Golf R in that case.

Wait. Shouldn’t you get a truck before a B5?
![]() 09/27/2016 at 21:40 |

The truck will replace the Jetta, which is the reliable DD till then.

I just want a nogaro blue something or other from Audi.

If the S3 or RS3 had a manual, they would probably get my money.

Didn’t Audi say that the B9 S4 would be auto-only? Side note - new B9 Avants were all over the Netherlands when I was there last week. I’m not sold on the sedan, but the Avants were gorgeous. Every one I looked in was either an auto or DSG though.

Possibry?

The S3 for sure. For ‘Murica at least, I’m still waiting for a manual.

B9 S4 is auto only for the moment, but the US spec B9 A4 is confirmed to get a manual.

a manual S3 is something they’ve been mulling over for years. Sigh

Looks like the 2.0T A4 may get one, but not for 2017 according to the EPA. I’d love an S3 manual... But I’ll believe it when I see it.

Yup, there was even a petition at one point to convince them.
The good thing about the B9 going is that enthusiasts will scoop them up for years to come.
Also, how’s the 7.3 doing?
![]() 09/27/2016 at 21:53 |

yuuup, agreed.
![]() 09/27/2016 at 21:59 |

Yeah, I don’t put much faith in either car getting a stick. It will make the TT-RS that much more desirable. I want to drive one (I have many VAG cars on my list LOL).
The 7.3 is doing great, my friend who knows everything about 7.3's was in town and looked over it and said that it looks to be running really good. Blew their mind when I told them what I paid.
At some point soon I’m going to put a bigger exhaust and a tuner on it (because torque and mpg), as well as the oil and fuel crossover mods which will help the fuel system run smoother and quieter.

Good to hear. I know we like to talk about this on Jalopnik and Oppo and then just buy used cars, but in 2 years both of my $25k cars will be paid off and I’ll be in the market for a $40k-ish sedan. Manual is a must. The more choices, the better. I’ve driven a B8 DSG and liked it a lot, so an A4 manual would be high on my list. I’m assuming the 328i will still be available with a manual. Of course I’ll probably just buy a loaded WRX in the end.

Last four cars I’ve bought, I bought new, all manuals. Most likely I won’t be buying new again for a while though. When I sell back my TDI I will mostly be looking at used things. Particularly Porsches.
![]() 09/27/2016 at 22:17 |

I would be seriously interested in a new TDI Passat 6MT but sadly that is a thing that won’t exist again any time soon. When I test drove a used 6MT CC last year I actually thought about this - somebody has to buy these things new or they will stop selling them. Until now I haven’t had the money for a new car, but that should change in the next few years if I keep my head down at work.
![]() 09/27/2016 at 22:23 |

I like the TDI, and if money were no object I’d keep it as a daily. But I decided I need something more practical than the TDI, and I want something more fun than the TDI. So that’s what I’m going to get, and I don’t really want spend the money to keep a 2015 TDI around as a third car.
The “third car” slot in my stable is reserved for something TBD that will be a project car or track rat.

As long as its a powerstroke i support this 100%

What?

When a 6.0 breaks, it’s the headgasket. When a 6.4 breaks, it’s the entire engine. It was garbage. There was a reason why it had a shorter life cycle.

Yea the same as all new diesel engines. delete the EGR and DPF and they are good to go for very long times. Only major issues 6.4's have are they have a slightly higher oil consumption from blowby
